High John the Conqueror was an African prince that was brought over during the slave trade. It is said that High John had this spiritual ability that allowed him to always get the upper hand. He was able to free himself. There where many tales of his talent for overcoming seemingly insurmontable obstacles with flair. It is said his spirit lives in the root that bares his name.
